What area is your planting site? We encourage orchard trees to be planted together in an grid layout rather than as individual trees. Please calculate the area you hope to plant using you can use Google Earth and select path and polygon function to find out the size of a bit of land.

How many orchard trees do you require (multiples of 10):

Fruit trees come on rootstocks which determine the final size of the tree. The rootstock you choose influences how many trees can be planted in your space. For guidance, 10 trees on a Semi-Dwarf Rootstock (M26) would need an area 20m x 20ms (400m²). Fruit tree supplier Orange Pippin have a great guide to fruit tree spacing.

Orchard training

As part of receiving orchard trees we are running informative workshops covering themes such as design, maintenance and integrating orchards into the healthcare system. These are generously funded through Trees Call to Action fund and will be run by The Orchard Project. These will be held in September – October (exact dates to be confirmed). If possible please come to the live event. Alternatively, the sessions will be available as recordings afterwards.

Orchards: expression of interest

Please fill out this form to register your interest in receiving free NHS Forest orchard trees for your healthcare site to be planted between November 2024 and March 2025.

We are only able to supply trees to NHS sites in England at this time.

Please ensure you have consulted with relevant teams within your organisation to ensure you are able to plant trees on your site.

We aim to supply trees to all sites in England that request them; trees will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We hope to offer trees to sites outside of England in the future.
