Congratulations to the Sustainability and Capital Development team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including CSH Nature Recovery Ranger, Nick White, for winning the Project of the Year Award at HEFMA’s 2024 National Awards.

Their winning project was for the social value delivery as part of the contact for the demolition of the old Royal Liverpool University Hospital. This closed following the opening of the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital in October 2022. Demolition is due to be complete in the next two years, making way for new health and life sciences redevelopment of the site in the future.

When the demolition contract was awarded to DSM Demolition, the 10% social value commitment cover multiple themes, including a financial contribution which was used to fund a Nature Recovery Ranger to support the trust in improving biodiversity across its sites. It has resulted in the development of a trust biodiversity plan and a shift in routine ground maintenance practices and capital designs.
